List of keywords with Medline extensions November 21, 2001

The database has a total of more than 20.000 keywords, most of which have a very precise meaning. This list contains only that small subset of keywords which have Medline extensions. (All other keywords with extensions have been merged into or converted into the basic term, and will yield references from 2000 on only).

x after the number of references with the keyword inc. extension indicates that the basic term has been added to all references with that term + extensions.

- after the number of references with the keyword inc. extension indicates that the basic term has NOT been added to references. In these instances, usually the term works ONLY with extensions or with wildcard (*). In a few cases (e.g. brain; disease; eye; face) the basic term has been reserved for keyword combinations and for narrowing free phrase searches. Basic terms in brackets are not represented.

* indicates that wildcard can be used effectively to search the term including those with extensions only

-> indicates that a more straightforward basic term has been added to the references. This term and the original basic term have been linked when they are true synonyms.
